Lilly Pulitzer for Target

I am so thrilled that Lilly Pulitzer partnered with Target, and in just a few short days it will be available in stores and online. I am literally jumping for joy! Lilly Pulitzer’s stuff is so happy and bright, and now affordable, just in time for Summer.

Below are my top picks from the collection coming soon!

Satin Dress Boom Boom

I love the shape of this dress and the Kelly green color, too. It would be great dressed up or dressed down. You could wear this on a date night, to a pool party or a cookout.

Halter Top – Pineapple Punch

women_halter-top---pineapple-punch

A halter top is a very flattering fit for most. I love the bright yellow. This top would look great paired with white jeans. The pineapple print reminds me of my honeymoon – when we sipped pina coladas overlooking the ocean and poolside every day.

Scarf with Tassels – Boom Boom

The pink and Kelly green combo is perfect. This scarf would make any outfit even happier.

Straw Tote Bag – Happy Place

The name says it all. Happy Place? I love the gold, tassel and pineapple finishing touches too. A great Summer time bag.

Gold Sandals – Pineapple

The sandals are classy, check. Will go with literally everything, check. Are flat, and are great for chasing a little one around that just started walking, check. Are adorned with a pineapple, check, check. Who could pass these up? I know I can’t.

Giraffe Necklace – Gold

women_giraffe-necklace---gold

Giraffes and elephants warm my heart. This one would be such a sweet addition to my jewelry box.

 Porcelain Pineapple – Serving Bowl

We host a lot of holidays and dinners for family and friends. This would be a great serving dish for appetizers! It would also make a great hostess gift.

Napkins with a Pom Pom Trim

Did someone say “Pom Poms?” Sold.

What are you excited about in the Lilly Pulitzer collection for Target? I love Lilly Pulitzer’s style. These items just may be on my birthday wish list, too. So, if you’re needing a great gift item for a friend or family member, you may want to get to Target early on Sunday because I have a feeling these items are going to be gone, fast.  Plus, don’t forget, Mother’s Day is right around the corner as well!

Introducing “If Money Grew On Trees…But Since It Doesn’t” Series

I want to introduce you to a series called “If Money Grew On Trees…But Since It Doesn’t” with Fancy Says Have A Ball blog.

Before I go on, I want to preface this post with a few thoughts for you so you can understand where I am coming from and where I am going with this series.

I follow a lot of great blogs, and when I say great, I mean they are amazing. I read them like they are another newspaper, my fashion newspaper, every day. It’s part of my morning routine with my second cup of coffee (once the baby goes down for a nap). And some of them post about some absolutely beautiful clothing/accessories, etc. I think their content is always fabulous and flawless. The one thing I do notice though is that some of the pieces they are featuring are way out of my price range. I think it’s wonderful that they can afford those pieces. I really do. I also know that some of those items are “gifted” pieces from vendors as well. So, please know that I don’t hold any of this against any of those amazing bloggers, but to be honest, not all of us out in this blogging world can afford those pieces. So, that brings me to the new series I am introducing to you today, “If Money Grew On Trees…But Since It Doesn’t.”

I love fashion, always have, but I have always been on a budget, my whole life. I remember since I could read fashion magazines, I have used them as a source of “inspiration” for my closet. Who doesn’t right? That’s the purpose of them for me, and probably most. I could never afford most of the items featured in the magazines, and that’s OK. I would just “study” the styles for each season, and incorporate what I loved into my closet, on a budget.

Quick story – Many years ago, my parents taught me the value of a $1.00 (Thanks Mom & Dad).  I babysat, was a lifeguard, worked in various retail jobs over the holidays and Summers. I also worked two internships that were paid internships as well. My parents said that my paycheck was my money to do with it what I wanted (encouraging me to save 15% of every paycheck, as well). They knew I would appreciate the items I would buy with my own paycheck a whole lot more, rather than them just handing me a credit card and saying “have fun.” So, slowly, but surely, I started building my wardrobe, that to this day, I LOVE. My Mom taught me how to shop well. She always sent me to the back of the store to check out the sale/clearance racks first. Instead of shopping at the beginning of the season, I did most of my shopping at the end of the season to get the best deals. The clothes are just as good as they were full price, I just wanted to pay less for them. She and I also share the same LOVE for Marshalls, TJMaxx and Homegoods. Now, I will say, the one thing I tend to “splurge” on are my pants. I am 5’10, so finding pants on sale in my length is never easy. I am fine with paying a little more for my pants, because I consider them an “investment.” I still have pants that I bought from jcrew in college, and dress pants I wore during my business internships. I guess some would call them vintage at this point, I would just call them “classic.” Of course, my parents would fill in a lot of items in my closet, too, but for the most part when I started working, I started buying my own clothes that I “wanted” versus what they bought for me, which was what I “needed.”

So, the point of this series is to point out that you can still look and feel great, even on a budget. In each post of this series, I plan to post my top picks each season at places such as Target, Ann Taylor LOFT, Gap, Old Navy & more shops like these. I will also feature my favorite home decor on a budget as well. (I LOVE consignment shops!)

If money did grow on trees, it would be great, but since it doesn’t, it doesn’t mean we have to compromise our style, we just have to shop a little smarter, that’s all.

If you’re on a budget like me, how do you shop smarter? What are your favorite go-to shops? Don’t you love that feeling when you know you got a great deal on a really good item? I know I sure do!

Handbag Picks for Spring/Summer 2015

I think handbags are hands down my favorite accessory. What girl doesn’t love a great handbag to tote around town? I am extremely picky about my handbags. My handbags have to have structure, and the bigger the better for me. I have a baby, so all of our stuff combined has to fit and be functional.

I’ve rounded up a few favorites I am loving for Spring/Summer 2015. One of my picks is a baby bag (for any Moms or future Moms), and then some are just great handbags, I wouldn’t mind adding to my closet.

What kind of handbags do you like? Do you tend to be brand loyal? Or, are you all over the place, like me?

MICHAEL Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Top Zip Tote

The shape of this tote is classic, and the navy is simply gorgeous.

Kate Spade New York Claremont Drive Marcella

Kate Spade

I really love the shape of this handbag. The cashew color is nice, because it will go with everything you wear. It also comes in black.

Kate Spade New York Classic Nylon Brynne Baby Bag

Baby bag

Do you notice a theme going on here? Structure. I have a baby bag from Kate Spade, and don’t know what I would do without it. The best part is, you don’t even know it’s a baby bag, it looks so much like a cute tote. Kate knows what she’s doing.

 Sondra Roberts Perforated Leather Tote

The detail on this tote is beautiful. I love the natural color, and it could be worn year round. This would hold all of our stuff too. Perfect!

Gramono Scalloped Edge Monogrammed Leather Clutch Purse

I love the mint version of this purse. It would be so cute for a date night out or brunch.

Have a great weekend!

Wish List – Rain Boots

April showers bring May flowers. And, I do love the May flowers. I also like the rain, especially when I don’t have to go anywhere. It’s always nice to have an excuse to stay inside, and get caught up on things around the house that are nagging at me in the back of my head. However, when I was working in an office Monday – Friday you have no choice but to fight the rain battle going in and out of work. I cannot tell you how many pairs of really cute, and I mean cute shoes I ruined wearing into the office during those years. So, a few years ago, I had the bright idea of having a pair of rain boots in the back of my car, and one pair in my office. I also did this with umbrellas. So, no matter when it rained, I was putting my cute shoes in a bag, and putting on a pair of rain boots. One pair is black with white polka dots, and the other pair was solid black (I say was because they didn’t last that long, but they did serve their purpose). They have all kinds of fun prints and colors to choose from, but since I could ride the elevator with the CEO at any moment and time, I figured I should stay conservative on the color/print choice. You just don’t want to draw anymore attention to yourself than you have to in a moment like that one.  While I am confident in my rain boot style, it get’s awkward when you stuff your wide leg dress pants into your rain boots, and you look like you’re about to play golf (mimicking Payne Stewart – a class act by the way) instead of going into work. Some days it looked cute because I was wearing a dress and tights, and some days it just looked plain stupid (you cannot predict/plan when it’s going to rain, neither can the weather man) with certain outfits, but my shoes were safe and sound, and that’s really all that matters.

Today, I thankfully don’t have to worry about running into the CEO anymore, but I still want my rain boots to be cute and go with pretty much any outfit I may have on when it decides to rain.

So, since it’s been well over 10 years with my black and white polka dot rain boots (I paid $19.99 for them in new york) I am in need of a new pair. They are now my “yard rain boots,” that I am currently spreading mulch in on the weekends.

Let me tell you 10 years makes a huge difference in pricing of these rain boots, too. I’d say someone is making a killing on the fact that they have now become a fashion statement. Since they are so pricey these days, rain boots will be on my “birthday wish list.” Below are some of my favorite styles/prints right now. We’ll just have to wait to see which pair gets wrapped up…

 Splash Rain Boot (Women’s)

Splash Rain Boot

I really love the olive green/pink combo on these. Pink/Green is one of my favorite color combinations. They would go with anything I wear, which is a plus.

 Joules Welly Print Rain Boots

horse wellies

Navy is classic, add a horse print with a pink accent, and I am sold. I have always loved horses since I was a little girl. Still do.

Women’s Nomad Hurricane Rain Boot

Yellow rain boots

The yellow is just too much fun. Is that such a bad thing? On a rainy day, I wouldn’t mind being reminded that the sun will come out again! Yellow is another favorite color of mine. I get so happy when I see anything yellow.

Women’s LAUREN Ralph Lauren Rossalyn Rain Boots

Plaid rain boots

You can never go wrong with a preppy plaid. I love these too.

Monogrammed Rain Boots with Bows

monogrammed rain boots

Seriously? These are darling…and I cannot turn down a monogram or a bow. Could you? I don’t think so…

This will be a tough decision, but thankfully I have a few months to decide! So, see, you can still look adorable rain or shine!

A Twist on the Classic Wedge Salad

If your husband is anything like mine, he’s not a big fan of “salads for dinner.” However, he and I both love wedge salads when we eat out. I think the bacon is what sold him. What guy wouldn’t eat a salad for dinner, if it had bacon on it? One day this past Fall, we decided it would be fun to re-create our favorite salad at home. We made it the traditional way with iceberg lettuce, bacon, blue cheese and cherry tomatoes, and it was good, but since then, we decided to make some minor changes that made a big impact for us, at least. In our opinion, iceberg lettuce is fine, but it’s mainly water, and fewer nutrients than other lettuces, so we substituted baby spinach for the iceberg. We added an avocado, too.

We made this last night, and it was once again, another great “salad for dinner!”

wedge salad

Here’s our twist/recipe of the “Classic Wedge Salad:”

Baby Spinach
4 strips of uncured bacon, cooked
Cherry tomatoes
Crumbled blue cheese
1 Sliced avocado
Pepper to taste
Salt to taste
Marzetti’s The Ultimate Blue Cheese Dressing

We try to bake our bacon ahead of dinner time, if we remember. It saves you a lot of waiting time when you are ready to eat dinner.

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Then, spray a nonstick cookie sheet with canola oil. Lay the 4 strips (gives us 2 each) of uncured bacon on the cookie sheet. Bake for 20 minutes until crispy. Take the bacon off of the cookie sheet and lay on a plate with a paper towel to soak up the extra grease. I pat the top of the bacon to get both sides taken care of…

Fill your salad bowls with the washed baby spinach, sliced cherry tomatoes, crumbled blue cheese, sliced avocado, and add your crispy bacon. Last, but not least, add your dressing. We like the Marzetti’s “The Ultimate Blue Cheese” dressing. You can either add it to the top of your salad or have it on the side.

This would be great with rolls, too. We opted to have dessert instead of bread! (You’ve gotta spread those calories out wisely!)

Enjoy!

Etsy

Let’s chat about Etsy…

We have a large family (which is wonderful by the way), but between the birthdays and the holidays it gets hard to find things for everyone that are truly unique gifts. Problem solved: Etsy. Sign up today, if you don’t already have an account. I don’t like to buy gift cards unless I’m completely clueless about what to buy someone. I really do love to find that perfect gift every time, and I always know it when I see it.  Typically, I will think on gift ideas for a few days and then once I have an idea, I go on the treasure of hunt for each person. Well, lately, I have been doing a lot of hunting on Etsy. There are so many kinds of fun gift ideas that you can get for those hard to buy for people in your family. And, the best part, it’s affordable, you can personalize the gifts if you want to, and you’re supporting small businesses. What’s not to love about those three things? And, there’s honestly something for everyone on Etsy.

Below are just a few gift ideas I am loving lately. What’s your go-to shop for gifts items? Have you had a lot of luck with Etsy?

Monogram Wreath Mugs

 il_340x270.615492117_77kn

These are really pretty mugs, and you won’t mix up coffee mugs ever again.

Greek Key Initial Pad

il_340x270.504754342_a4kr

I don’t know about you, but besides these being super cute, who couldn’t use another note pad? I’m always looking for a notepad to jot something down on…

Beaded Tassel Bracelets

il_570xN.689966793_4whn

I cannot stop thinking about these tassel bracelets. They just scream “fun!”

Children’s Name Signs

il_570xN.398821124_37cn

This sign couldn’t be more perfect for a little one like a niece or nephew. I had one when I was a child (carved in the shape of a bunny rabbit). I still have mine, and I plan to hang mine in my laundry room today.

 Monogram Letters

il_570xN.676376816_ewkn

Monogram letters…adorable on a door, over a headboard or just hanging on a wall in a kitchen or den. You can order them unpainted, and paint it yourself, if you want to. It also makes a fun art/craft project for kids. My Mom and niece painted her initials over Christmas time together.

Art Prints

Who doesn’t want to be inspired everyday? These prints are colorful and have happy messages that are good reminders for your loved ones.
